Firstly, you probably all want to know why I have the time to do this. Well I'm on exam leave now and anything is better than revision. Also I love the Guest so damn much  :-*.

Secondly, you may be asking yourselves, "What does emulation mean?". If you are one of these simple minded people then Google is there for a reason. And is able to solve most of your problems. Just in case typing six letters in continuous prose is too much for you, here is Dodger's definition:

An Emulator is a program which mimics the actions of other systems, such as a game console. Emulators try to translate or interpret the original program code of the original game and try to make it work on your PC. Games for emulators of cartridge based game consoles are usually stored in ROM files, which are available for downloading from various places.
Games for emulators of CD based game consoles, such as the playstation however, are often able to use the original CD (if you have it) which you insert into your computer like a normal PC game.

          - Adapted from Emulator Zone Definition

"Yeah but Dodger, we don't care what it is we just want to play our gamezzz!"

Right, next I recommend visiting www.emulator-zone.com for your needs. Well, do it now and we'll continue.

"EEKUMS there's to much information for my little nublet brain!"

Well that's why I'm here. In the bar on the left it displays a list of all the Emulators that have been released and are available for downloading. Often the older Emulators are easier to use, and better, so as an example we are going to pick the Nintendo64 emulator for a demonstration.

Following the Nintendo64 link you will see a list of all the current N64 emulators. It is often wise to pick the one with the highest number of stars, for obvious reasons.
We will, in this case, click 'Project64'

A new page loads, scroll down and click one of the Download Mirrors. You're Emulator will then begin to download (don't worry, it's a relatively small file).

Double click the .exe file to start the installation.

Note: Not all emulators will require installation. With some, the .exe file you download will be the emulator.

At the end of the installation tick 'Run project64'.
You should see a window pop up that looks like this:

"Okay Dodger, we worship you for getting us this far! But there are no gamezzzzz!?!?!11"

Ahah! You noticed! That's because like I said in my definition, the games are in rom form. They must also be downloaded.
Some Emulators may come with some Roms pre-packaged, but it is unlikely.

Okay, to download your Rom you need to visit a different site. May I suggest www.romnation.com? There are plenty out there, but this is one of the best.

Click the link, Roms in the sidebar. And select your Emulator.

Grrrr...They've done something gay since I was last here. It seems you now have to vote to get to the rom pages. It is worth it, but feel free to find another site if you wish.

Screw it, I can't get in. I'm going to find a different site.

Try http://romhustler.net/. Click Nintendo64 on the left browse for the game you want. Click the game.

It says you have to vote, but it still works if you don't. Click download. Wait 10 seconds. Click to download again.

While you are waiting for your rom to download, there are a few things that need to be configured with you emulator. For example, if you need to play your game on a keyboard, then the keys need to be configured. Or certain graphics settings need to be changed. These options can be reached by clicking    Options>.

Right by now you should have a rom (unless you've decided to download an abnormally large  game like I have).

Yawwwwn, right now we are waiting for my rom to download. This should add considerable time to my time taken. If I was getting paid for this then that would be great.

Go back to your Emulator and click File>Open rom

Browse for your rom. And double click it.
If your rom fails to open, then go back to the site and download a different one. It is possible that the rom you downloaded is for use with a different Emulator.

And there we have it. The A-Z of Emulation. If there are any questions, feel free to email. My delete key could do with some exercise.

Ed. I will post a picture of my working game as soon as it is finished downloading.

Disclamer:
You must only download a rom of a game that you ALREADY HAVE. If you do not have the game already the you MUST DELETE THE ROM AFTER 24 HOURS. Doing otherwise is ILLEGAL and you have every right to be prosecuted by the game manufacturer or representative.

I have an emulator for a Sega console on CDs. Pretty nifty, but out of about 20 games, the only I game I enjoy is Mortal Kombat. No Golden Axe there  :'(

Don't hit me with your mean sarcastic comments...only I can do that...and now I know how it feels :'(

Question - Why would I want to play console games on my computer when games for pc are clearly better. At least in my opinion. Discuss. Also whats everyone favorite game? I really wonder.

:-* You too dodger, thanks for the tutorial. *Waits for Matlu to delete it* Good thing I saved a copy in my email, lol.

And Jacob, its because some people dont have a N64, or XBOX, or PS2, or GameCube, but they still want to play the games that go to those consoles.

Also, its completely free, and its not bad at all. Its just like owning a XBOXCUBEPS2N64  :)
