What is the formula for the success of mind control?  mmm...probability.

Depends solely on resistance.
Probability to resist = resistance * 10%
(e.g. creature with resistance 4 has 40% probability  to resist)

BTW when you already mentioned probabilities - I changed combat system. Old formula:
probability to kill = (STR - DEF + 5) * 10%
is no longer used!

I believe that new system is closer to original cw. And... I decided to not disclose new formula. Will be more interesting...
