I think we should raise it from 12 letters up to 20 or 25 letters or else when this site starts to advertise everybody will get a name and then there will be so many people it would be very very hard to make a name because you can only have 12 lettters

sorry it's not possible (technical reasons). If you want some non-technical reasons: can you imagine, that you want to send a private message to somebody, and you have to type 20 letters of nickname first?
another non-technical reason: even 12 letter names already have problem to fit into some lists etc.

12 letters should be enough for everybody 

BTW I remember times, not too long ago, when most people used to chat through IRC, which allowed only 9  letters. It was used by hundreds of thousands people, and they were all perfectly happy with 9 letters.

i dunno what charset the game uses but either way theres more than 100 chars to choose from and 12 different spots to put them in

not really, only numbers, english alphabet letters and underscore is allowed. (And the name is not case sensitive). It's almost 40 different chars.

But anyway there is no reason to be afraid to run out of namespace combinations.

Actually my previous estimate was wrong. ZZ and I having nothing to do, decided to make a nice little equation to find the numbers of screen names left. I am almost positive the equation is:

- name may not start with underscore
- there is certain set of "unacceptable" names (vulgar, offending etc.)

There is an easier summation that you could do.  Its a thrusday night with no school tomorrow so summations are the last thing on my mind.  Many some time later this weekend I will try to figure it out instead of doing my poetry paper.

If I were you, I would not bother with it I hope that everybody believes that 12 characters is enough.

It is now made to reflect underscores not being allowed at the beginging or end of a name, and not allowing guest at the beging......as for censored words, I couldn't apply that unless I had a list of the exact words. Sorry I am bored.

37^12 does not factor in names that are blocked, and also assumes every name uses all 12 spaces.

I'm not writing poetry.  I have to write an analsys of a Dickinson or Whitman poem.

You are lucky Actually I enjoy good poetry I also had some lessons of english poetry, I liked especially John Donne, Shelley and Robert Frost (I can still say "stopping by woods in the snowy evening" by heart)
