Modifiable chess board - 8x8 for 2 player; 16x16 for 3/4

King beams down in the normal place.

People can then 'beam down' a chess piece (from the regular 16) next to the King; then they take their move.

Pieces move in the regular fashion.

Yeah, kinda had a bigger idea in my mind.

Involving the alien/mech (black/white) % modifiers.

But couldn't conceive of an effective way of implementing it. 

Any ideas?  I mean, perhaps you could use the chess scoring system (1-3-5-8) as a basis for the maths.
